This is a short excerpt from Dr. Anne Crowley’s presentation at Tea & Tales in 2011. In this excerpt Anne talks about Pemberton’s first dentist, Sigrid Gimse, who provided dentistry services to people in Pemberton, Mt. Currie and Lillooet after emigrating in the 1920s.
Bob Walker worked in the logging industry in Pemberton for many years, starting in the 1940’s. Bob talks about some of the changes that he saw during the time that he was a logger, and about what the life of a logger was like.
Shirley Henry was a member of the Pemberton Town Council for a number of years and was a major force behind the development of the Pemberton Airport. In her presentation Shirley highlights the persistence and hard work that went into getting an airport in Pemberton. August 2, 2011.
Anne Crowley has lived in Pemberton and practiced dentistry here ever since the 1970’s. In her talk, she tells about her own career as a dentist and how she ended up in Pemberton, as well as about Sigrid Gimse: the first dentist in Pemberton. Sigrid was born in Norway and went to dentistry school there. She came to Pemberton in 1929 and was the local dentist until the early 1950’s. Anne also explains some of the hudge differences between dental practices now, and those in Sigrid’s time. July 26, 2011.
