Peek Frean biscuit tin

Image:
Description:
A biscuit tin donated by Clara Ronayne and it was made by Peek Frean – Makers Of Famous Biscuits. It was manufactured by Peek, Frean, And Company, Limited, Bermondsey, London. The biscuit tin is also titled “Sweet Assorted” above the names of “Peek Frean – Makers Of Famous Biscuits”. The company “Peek and Frean” was found in 1857 by James Peek and George Frean. Known as a former independent biscuit making company, during the 1860s-1880s both families of George Frean and James Peek had some difficulties in maintaining the business after James passing away along with George retiring. For the most part afterwards, the John Carr family ran the business up until much later in 1989 when the company was shut down by BSN and eventually became a part of the Tower Bridge Business Complex.
