Lessive Gillett’s Lye bottle

Description:
A white plastic bottle of “Gillett’s Lye” donated by Clara Ronayne. It has 100% pure flakes and is used for soap making. Lye is known to be a highly dangerous chemical (98.5% sodium hydroxide) that is capable of burning the skin and eyes in both wet/dry form, and is flammable when mixed with water that can also cause lung damage if inhaled. On the front of the label reads “Danger – extremely corrosive. Do not mix with any drain or household cleaner.” On the back says further instructions and below also informs that aluminum/other tinned surfaces should not be used with lye and should only be dissolved in cold water.
