spats

Image:
Description:
This pair of spats are of grey wool material with knitted tops. They have a leather foot strap with a strap at one end and a buckle at the other end. The strap is missing from one of the spats (b). There are a few holes here and there but these spats are still strong. They belonged to Mrs. Geoffrey Downton, but were donated to the museum by Marjory Gimse, her grand-daughter. After further examination the material may be a type of polyester with plastic particles because there is a blue/grey sediment that is coming from the fabric, indicating plastic degradation.
