Image:
Description:
A metal boning knife with a wooden handle that was used by Teresa Summerskill and it was donated by Laura Burden. On the left side of the blade reads “Friodur – J.A. Henckels”, the company that manufactured the knife. “Friodur” is known as specific ice-hardened steel used by J.A. Henckels manufacturing the blades. “J.A. Henckels”, also referred to the full name as “Zwilling J.A. Henckels AG”, was found in Solingen, Germany in 1731 by Peter Henckels. The name “zwilling” means “twin” in German and the J.A. Henckels logo of “twins” (having two stick men beside each other) was adopted by Peter with the Cutler’s Guild of Solingen. The small metal twins logo is on the left side of the handle. The company J.A. Henckels is known as well for being one of the oldest and largest domestic knife manufacturing companies. For donor biography see description for 021.10.01.
