Opening Ceremonies
Description:
Large group of people in front of a railway passenger car. Caption "Opening ceremonies of the Pacific Great Eastern's North Shore Line on January 1, 1914" Item appears to be part of a newspaper article. Joe notes on the back "I think this second car survived to about the end of steam. It became number 1801 and saw duty on steam and diesel passenger trains as a diner until the Budds came then it was made into passenger, baggage and a cupola on top and served on the way-freight as 'passenger caboose'. Picture taken at Gates Lake siding at Birken in the 50's when it served as caboose (cupola) for the way freight as they picked up passengers as well as logs and poles and freight. Car was in that siding for a while - bad ordered maybe. See picture at Gates Lake (Birken)".
