three pharmacal glass bottles

three pharmacal glass bottles

Description:

Three pharmacal glass bottles that were found in the Tenquille Cabin area by Stew McNolty. a) is a medium Listerine clear glass bottle with a cork screwed on top (as well as a metal ring split on one side on top of the cork) and also has the names inscribed with "Lambert Pharmacal Company" below the other inscription of "Listerine". The company, Lambert Pharmacal, was found in 1885 by Jordan W. Lambert in St. Louis, Missouri. Their products mainly consisted of pharmaceuticals and the company still remained in the same area. In 1926, it was set up as a holding company until in 1955 when it merged with another company of Warner-Hudnut Inc. It then dissolved in the year of 2000 when Pfizer Inc. took over Warner's position. Stew says that when Pioneers worked in the mines the air was so dry in the high alpine that they often took listerine with them to soothe their sore throats. b) is the second clear glass bottle that is smaller and wider in size with a rusted metal lid and has the inscriptions of "Trade Mark- Vaseline"on the top and "Chesebrough - New-York" below. The company Chesebrough was found in 1859 by Robert Augustus Chesebrough. He was a chemist who had an interest making oil products for medical needs and thus created the first petroleum jelly by refining rod wax. The company merged with Pond's Cream in 1955 and along with in 1987 Chesebrough was brought by Unilever (Anglo-Dutch Company). c) is medium sized with a metal cap and the glass is brown in colour. The bottle is unknown of where it came from and what type it is, as there is no inscribed brand name, although by assumption with the other two bottles, it may be related to pharmaceutical products.

Leg Hold Traps

Leg Hold Traps

Description:

This is a batch of traps. There are ten size 2's and 1 size " 3". One is a "stop loss". When a muskrat, mink or water animal would chew its leg off, the "stop loss" trap had a secondary bar which would still hold the animal. The traps are rusted but most are still useable . a) Three size 2 traps with teeth. b) Six size 2 traps without teeth, c) one size 2 with stop loss feature, d) One size 3. History: when Bob Menzel took over John Arn's trap line he acquired these and other traps. Arn's line ran up Railroad Pass (now referred to as "the Hurley') and into the Bridge River. Menzel used these traps but no longer uses the leg hold style. [Update 2013 from Bob Menzel]: The Menzel trap line included Both Arn's and Henry Erickson's trap line. The trap lines included Hurley and Upper Valley - John Arn worked Headquarter Creek and Cristi Creek (now Hilliby). Over the Hurley was worked by Andy Anderson and Henry Erickson. The treadle plates have a "V" which stands for "Victor" brand which was a common type of Trap. Item C may be a Newhouse brand which Bob says was a better trap.

ram skull and horns

ram skull and horns

Description:

A ram skull and horns, known as the "Pierre Jim Ram", that was killed by Pierre Jim in the fall of 1935 on the bluffs above the railway tracks, just to the west of Mount Currie. It was the only wild sheep (Anderson-Seton/California Bighorn) to ever be taken in Pemberton, specifically the areas of Mount Currie. It is assumed that when the ram was still alive, it wandered off from its home range (which was quite common for wild sheep to do so) and fell in the hands of a hunter. The ram skull and horns was adorned to the entrance of the Mount Currie pool until the building was demolished. Afterwards, Pierre Jim's grandson, Lloyd Williams, retrieved the skull and horns and kept them at his shed for many years. Lloyd eventually agreed that the trophy was more appropriate to be donated and displayed at the Museum. He felt that the prized possession would be properly cared for there, "rather than laying in my woodshed", and that more people will be able to view it at the Museum.
