MG 76 - Henry, Shirley (Mrs. George)

This collection is comprised of original materials and collected materials donated by Shirley Henry.  Shirley arrived in Pemberton in 1964.  Her parents were Tom and Dolly Elchuk who moved to Kelowna B.C. from Yorkton Saskachewan.  Later the Elchuck family moved to Chilliwack.  Shirley was born in Kelowna B.C and grew up in Chilliwack.  She was a schoolteacher when she arrived in Pemberton in the 1960's.  She is married to George Henry and has two children, Micheal and Michele and three grandchildren.  Shirley was Pemberton's longest serving Mayor and governed for 15 years; 1978-1993.    Shirley Henry was awarded the BC Chamber of Commerce Fellow Award on May 25, 2013 in Nanaimo to recognize her decades of tireless work in the community.  She is the current Secretary/Treasurer for the Pemberton and District Chamber of Commerce.
