A "sourdough" on the Douglas Trail, 1858

The Douglas Trail was constructed in the fall of 1858. This was the first public works project on the mainland. It was initiated by Governor Douglas to ensure food and freight could be transported to the goldfields inland.

Ray Elliott

Ray Elliott photographs from the early 1900's.  Ray was a pack train operator on the Pemberton Trail and was an early Pemberton resident.   His son Gordon Elliott was the consultant and editor of "Pemberton: History of a Settlement" published by the Pemberton Pioneer Women's Commitee in 1977.  The photographs were donated when Gordon passed away earlier this year.

The last photograph in the gallery is of Port Pemberton was taken by Charles Gentil in the 1860's.
