Gas Lamp

Description:

Glass lamp with one glass bowl and chimney. Main part of lamp is made from pressed copper and has and embossed leaf design. Gas insert is made from brass plate. Maker's mark is visible on the top of the gas insert, "The Angle Lamp Co NY, Patented in the US and Foreign Countries". Maker's mark is only visible on 014.01.01. Originally the lamps were gas, but have been converted to electricity. History: they belonged to Mary Knight, married to Bud Knight of Toronto, who was a friend of Raine's. Mary acquired these in Eastern BC - [maybe Nelson ?] when she first came to B.C. in the 1930's. She took the lamps with her to Toronto and requested that Raine bring the lamps back to BC if she passed away. Raine brought the lamps to the museum in remembrance of her friend and to honour her wish to bring them back to the west coast of Canada.

This item is the same as 014.01.01 but it is missing the glass bowl-- c) of 014.01.02. Main part of lamp is made from pressed copper and has and embossed leaf design. Gas insert is made from brass plate. Maker's mark is no longer visible, but is visible on 014.01.01. Originally the lamp was gas but it has been converted to electricity. Description:

BC Forest Services license decal. Metal, painted white with green letters and boarder. The border and letters are raised above the rest of the plate. It is slightly bent.

Sling Psychrometer

Sling Psychrometer

Description:

Weksler sling Psychrometer. Maker's mark "Weksler" still visible. Two staggered thermometers mounted on a painted white metal plate attached by a hinge to a silver metal rod that swings the thermometers back and forth. One of the thermometers has a piece of white cloth at the bottom called a wick which is dipped in water "wet bulb thermometer" and "dry bulb thermometer". Device is swung around, cooling/drying the wet bulb thermometer. Dry air results in lower temperature. Leather case is a browny/orange colour with yellowish beige stitching and a painted gold makers mark.

SUUNTO Clinometer

SUUNTO Clinometer

Description:

SUUNTO compass for measuring height, clinometers, combined height and clinometer, slopes, vertical angles. Object is silver metal with a green cover where the compass is located. White string attached. Maker's mark is still visible on the front of the object: "SUUNTO". There is a hole and the bottom of the object with a glass cover, a little smaller than a dime. There is a chart on the back of the object, on a darker silver plate: reads: 360 Cosine Decimals with a series of numbers. Someone has scratched "M & B" into the side of the object. The serial number of the object is visible on the back: 315367, and it is model PM 5/360 PC which is visible on the compass dial in the centre. Materials are metal, glass, plastic, textile string.

This metal cultivator with a high front wheel is rusted. Five blades are bolted onto a plate. In the 1940's or 1950's. T. Fougberg bought it new and used it a good deal.

Mouldboard Plough

Description:

Horse drawn mold board plough lacks frame. Has three main parts: 1) steel fin to cut the soil vertically. 2) steel plough share (at base), pointed in front, sheared off at right angle in rear. Share cuts horizontally. 3) mold board, rusted curved iron plate to receive soil cut loose and turn it over. Condition: rusted and lacking a frame. The late Jake Lokken used it. When his grandson Don Summerskill, sold the farm he left the plough at Fougberg's.

Pitman

Description:

This pitman for a mower has a worn wooden shaft with steel attachments at both ends; at one end identical slightly inward curving steel pieces project below the wooden shaft and are riveted to it, one on each side. Each piece has an oblong opening, one exactly opposite the other, these fit over a knob on the mower blade. At its other end the wooden shaft has a steel plate riveted to it; riveted to that is a round device of steel with a central opening to fit over a round steel shaft of the mower. Condition: much rusted. Belonged to Jake Lokken's mower: when Lokken's grandson sold the farm he left several farm artifacts with the Fougbergs.

This is a home-made cross bar for paired harness used with a draw bar. b) is the cross bar for paired harness, and has metal plate (bumper) in the middle and both ends. It could be a bumper from a cart or sleigh. The materials are wood and metal.

Description:

A printer's mat from The Daily Province newspaper. It's headline reads "disposal of the $250,000 stock of Weiler Bros. Limited, Victoria". The date on the printer's mat reads "Wednesday October 22, 1924". A picture on the mat of two heads with no faces looking away from each other. the picture under the headline is of a man in his store reaching over to something. There are chairs and stools in the back. The boarder is thicker on the left side. Wendy Ireland found this in her wall while doing renovations to her house, which used to be owned by the Gimse family. Also known a flong or stereo mold, used as a mold to create a lead stereoplate during stereotyping.

A plate with red detailing. The plate depicts a man riding a horse while carrying a flag. There are mountains behind him and a tree to his left. There is a skunk to his right along with three more men on horses. The rim of the plate has bunches of grapes and smaller scenes of two men doing things like walking and hunting. The plate is early 19th century and highly collectable according to research. In the bottom it reads "Belzoni E . W & S". This item belonged to Frances Decker of Pemberton B.C who got them from English relatives living in Ontario.
