Description:

Hand crank phone. This was a typical phone used when power first came to the area in the 1950's. An identical phone was in the D'arcy General Store. Phone is a large wall mounted unit, made entirely of wood except the ear and mouth piece and two bells which are composed of plastic and metal and mounted on the front of the unit. There is a writing ledge mounted on a slight angle below the mouth piece. The mouth piece protrudes 19 cm from the front of the phone.

This item belonged to Mrs. Ben Sally (Sara) Cherry who was previously married to Mr. Purden. Phone box with headset that would have been used on the Purden Farm. Model "N1293RA" by Western Electric U.S.A. Mouth piece is mounted to the phone box and the headset has an earphone. Headset is attached to phone box with cloth covered wire.

a) This is a large wooden grammophone that originally belonged to George Walker. It has a lifting lid and two cupboard compartments in the front, one for a speaker and one for holding records, and one on the right side for the winding handle. The record player is beneath the top lid and still spins though it quickly slows down. b) this is a small red record with the maker's mark Columbia Records, "Playtime - Noah's Ark - Part 1" c) this is a black record with the maker's mark RCA Victor, "Jolly Lumberjack Polka" d) this is a black record with the maker's mark RCA Victor, His Master's Voice Victor, "Creole Love Call", Duke Wellington and his Orchestra e) this is a black record with the maker's mark Quality Records, "Lily of Lagua", Eddie "Piano" Miller

Description:

Antique threaded telephone insulators manufactured by the Dominion Glass Company of Montreal. Embossed on both is "DOMINION - 9" on one side and a diamond on the other. The 9 series were for use as telephone insulators. a) has chip in the top ridge. b) Has chips in the nodules on the bottom. Found in a shed in Mt.Currie behind the house that Klay was renting.

A light blue telephone insulator with " B.T.CO OF CANADA" embossed on the side, which stands for Bell Telephone Company of Canada The inside is partially threaded. There is a chip on the bottom. Found in a shed in Mt.Currie behind the house that Klay was renting.

Motorola walkie-talkie

Description:

Motorola "Handie - Talkie" FM radio phone that was used by Valleau logging in the 1980s- 1990s. Orange label affixed reads "166.14/2100' also "do not adjust controls". Item is a rectangular in shape with an on/off icon + two turning knobs marked "A"+"S". The bottom compartment snaps off and would have held the battery. Two wires extend from the bottom. There are two radio jacks and one antenna and wires. This type of unit greatly improved communication between the yarder operator and the men on the ground, improving safety and productivity at work. See accession # 014.26.01 for history.
