Lidded First Nations Basket

Lidded First Nations Basket

Description:

The wood is fairly dirty but there are no loose strips. The basket had some mould before so it has been vacuumed. There is a red and black checkered pattern on the lid and differing diamond and triangle patterns on all sides. There is no latch to tie the lid to. Found in Kaslo, BC, there is no known history but it was shipped to Pemberton after it was identified as originating from the Coast Salish community and the donor found the museum online.

Description:

A 1964 singer sewing machine in cabinet. "I was born in Squamish B.C. , but raised in Pemberton B.C. I was one the first grades (grade five, I believe) in the signal hill elementary school , when it first opened. My mother Anne decker, married to Jim Decker was an excellent Seamstress and I remember as a teenager her making me skirts for school ( Knee length, of course) which I promptly rolled up at the waist line once I was out of her sight!"

A drawing print of a trapper in a forest. The picture has a man smoking a pipe in the forest. There are two tail ends of horses and a bunny in the picture. It reads "Sourdough "trapper" on the gold rush trail ~ circa 1858 Pencil/Ink PDMAS 2010". Its in a black frame and labeled on the back. the drawing was made for the "Pemberton Survival Guide and Cookbook"

Pear Corers

Description:

Small tools with wooden handles and metal heads. Handles are round and metal heads. Handles are round of natural wood. Irregularly shaped heads, of thin metal bands, are formed to scoop cores from halved pears. Metal collars encircle narrowed section joining heads and handles. 984 .1.8 has a strip of black tape nearly surrounding the handle. On this tool the collar is loose. 984.1.9 is sound. Mrs. Collister is said to have used these in a cannery, probably in Richmond, where she earned fees to attend V.G.H. School of Nursing. In 1953 she came to Pemberton and probably brought the tools with her.

Description:

The tea cozy is of multicolored patchwork, quilted and joined with feather stitching. Sadie and her daughter, Eleanor Collister, both used this item. In 1958, with other artifacts, it was part of a museum display at Pemberton Secondary School.

Description:

This is the big wooden welcome sign for Pemberton that was located at One Mile lake from 1977 to 2015. It was carved by Mike Smyth and depicts wildlife including a beaver, moose, and tree in a meadow as well as leaping salmon, mushroom and dogwood bloom.

Mechanical Seeder

Description:

Mechanical seeder with extra part and wrench. belonged to Larry's father, John Cosulich, who was the president of the Pemberton Co-operative Association in the 1960's. "Planet Jr. - Made in the United States of America" stamped on to handle and on seed hopper. "No. 300 A". Unit has two metal wheels, the front wheel is larger than the rear and has a square metal hopper for seed. Wooden handles for wheeling and metal levers for dropping seed. Some rust. Original paint colour was green for wheels and frame and red for seed hopper. Red wrench and extra part for seeder are attached to handle. Wrench has "Planet Jr." on it in raised lettering, some loss of paint and rust. Extra part is pointed at one end and has "K/806" on it in raised lettering, some rust. Condition is fair. a) seeder b) wrench c) spare part.

Description:

This is a plaque shaped rectangular, brown and possibly made of brass. This plaque has four holes, one in each corner and was hung under a picture of 29 Mile House. Inscription- " 29 Mile House on Harrison - Lillooet route as it appeared in 1863. Oil painting". Donated by Mr. Jack Smith, Pemberton. History: The plaque identified the painting by "Trapper Jack" Smith which was destroyed in the October 1984 flood at Pemberton Secondary School.

This item is a portrait of Slim and Margaret Fougberg, the founders of the Pemberton Museum. The picture was taken by Leslie Spetifore. It was donated by Mike Dennison (former museum treasurer) who now resides in Vernon. This was accessioned as an object because it was donated in a wooden frame.
