Gas Lamp

Gas Lamp

Description:

Glass lamp with one glass bowl and chimney. Main part of lamp is made from pressed copper and has and embossed leaf design. Gas insert is made from brass plate. Maker's mark is visible on the top of the gas insert, "The Angle Lamp Co NY, Patented in the US and Foreign Countries". Maker's mark is only visible on 014.01.01. Originally the lamps were gas, but have been converted to electricity. History: they belonged to Mary Knight, married to Bud Knight of Toronto, who was a friend of Raine's. Mary acquired these in Eastern BC - [maybe Nelson ?] when she first came to B.C. in the 1930's. She took the lamps with her to Toronto and requested that Raine bring the lamps back to BC if she passed away. Raine brought the lamps to the museum in remembrance of her friend and to honour her wish to bring them back to the west coast of Canada.

This item is the same as 014.01.01 but it is missing the glass bowl-- c) of 014.01.02. Main part of lamp is made from pressed copper and has and embossed leaf design. Gas insert is made from brass plate. Maker's mark is no longer visible, but is visible on 014.01.01. Originally the lamp was gas but it has been converted to electricity. Description:

Glass chimney for oil lamp. It is narrow at base, then widens to middle, then narrows again to top. Lip at top sticks out slightly. On top of lip is pattern of raised bumps. Sticker on outside near top reads "sale price".

Description:

Two identical oil lamps but one is missing glass cover. Blue in colour with a circular base. On the top of base is piece that holds wick. Glass cover goes around wick. Two arms off base support the chimney. They have a wire handle attached to arms. On the chimney is "Made in China Kang Hwa" in raised letters. Chinese characters on base. a) lamp with chimney b) lamp without chimney.

Clear glass hand lamp in sound condition. The burner, through which the wick protrudes, extends into a screw-top collar, probably brass, attached to the font. Bottom of the font is the lamps base. Decoration: curving parallel glass ridges from the burner base. History: found in D'arcy.

Description:

This item possibly a pit lamp is a cylinder expanded to a light bulb on top. It has a spout which has a release control on it with a handle. It has a connector which can fasten it to a hat or a belt. It is engraved "Patented-Oct. 10 1899, Dec 12, 1899, Nov. 27,1900 " and "Columbia Model C' Automatic" and "Shine Watt, MFG. Co, Chicago, U.S. A." This item is slightly worn.

Description:

This vise is made of iron. It was meant to stick into the ground and as well clamp onto a table or another means of support. It's closed and opened by a large screw type device. It is turned with handle on the far left. It had a spring in its center to keep the vise closed. It is in fair condition, slightly rusted and worn.

This is an oil lamp; shaped in a sphere and mounted on a conical stand. Cream coloured with a few rust spots, and made of metal. There is a passage where the wick would come out and an adjustment knob; however it is bent.

This is a an oil lantern. It has a base for kerosene and a holder for hanging, but no chimney. This object was found in the attic of the Sam Jim house. History is unknown. The holder appears to be younger in age than the lamp.

This is a base for large oil lantern. Base is cylindrical and is supported by three feet. Two wide wicks on base, each wick has a separate handle for adjusting. Also on top of base is a round lid where fuel would be poured in. Considering the large size, item was most likely used for industrial purposes.
