Large Table Knife

Description:

Large table-type knife with rusted blade, shank with beaded design, a probably silver handle which flares out near the end to an egg shape and end in a small round section. The engraved design on the handle is intricate, with much beading. Two long column like motifs, one on either side; and a flower motif on the round section. Condition: Blade is generally rusted, and worn on the cutting edge. In general grooves in shank and handle are filled with earth. History: Found in Gates Creek.

Description:

Butt Gage. Used for marking how much wood to carve out of a door to make room for a hinge to lie flat. a) is a rectangular piece of metal (steel) with semi-circle handle attached on top. Three edges of rectangle have raised blades. The case to go around the metal piece is fabric with plastic coating, intended to look like leather. b) case.

Pocket knife with two blades. Stainless Steel(? ). Exterior is painted black. Pattern is such that lines are left bare of paint so there are silver lines forming pattern. It has a ring at one end. One blade is smaller than other.

This hand-made Swede or bucksaw was acquired by Cosulich near White Rock. The maker seems to have used wood from a packing crate. The blade is somewhat rusted.

Description:

This is a sickle made of iron and it has a wooden handle. The handle comes wood wrapped beyond the end of the blade. The handle is worn and smooth. The blade is curved at the end in a loop. The inside circular part of the blade is sharpened. The blade is slightly rusted and the piece is worn. See"grass hooks" @ 25c ea. Eaton's 1901 Fall and Winter Catalogue pp. 190 & 192.

Description:

This sickle is a rounded piece of metal in a semi circle. The middle is sharpened. The end of the blade is folded over and the handle is an extension of the blade. The blade is bent to place the handle in a tangent position. The blade is rusted and no longer capable of being sharpened. Halfway up the handle it is broken showing the metal structure in the center.

Description:

"Don Summerskill left the blades with Fougbergs when he moved to the Fraser Lake area. Toothed blades are rusted. History: Probably the blades were part of a mower operated by Summerskill's grandfather, Jacob Lokken, on the farm he bought on return from overseas service in World War I. a) has MA 139 embossed in metal near ball. b) has something embossed in metal near ball but is un-readable."

Pitman

Pitman

Description:

This pitman for a mower has a worn wooden shaft with steel attachments at both ends; at one end identical slightly inward curving steel pieces project below the wooden shaft and are riveted to it, one on each side. Each piece has an oblong opening, one exactly opposite the other, these fit over a knob on the mower blade. At its other end the wooden shaft has a steel plate riveted to it; riveted to that is a round device of steel with a central opening to fit over a round steel shaft of the mower. Condition: much rusted. Belonged to Jake Lokken's mower: when Lokken's grandson sold the farm he left several farm artifacts with the Fougbergs.

Shovel Blade

Description:

The rusted and pitted shovel was originally round, but now the worn cutting edge is irregular. The Fougbergs found it at Skookumchuck Hotsprings in August 1964. Probably Goodwin Purcell built the Hotsprings House. Certainly buildings existed there and for who knows how long people lived there.
