Flyback Fridays - George Vanderwolf The Lillooet Cattle Drive 1877 - short version

Welcome to Flyback Fridays - a glimpse into Pemberton’s past!  This season we will bring you stories and videos from Tea & Tales and our video archives over the last decade that highlight Pioneer life and the resiliency of early settlers and First Nations.  We will also share videos and stories that show how local residents have responded to emergencies and challenges in the past, illustrating the power of community ties through all kinds of difficulties – yesterday and today.

This week we feature George Vanderwolf who told us the Legend of the 1876-1877 Lillooet Cattle Drive at Tea & Tales in 2018.  George Vanderwolf has lived in Lillooet for 64 years and has worked as a prospector, game guide, trapper, rancher, and in road construction. Robert Carson's cattle drive of 1877 led to improvements in trail construction and maintenance through the Pemberton area. Remnants of the old trail can still be found in the Sea to Sky corridor.  Watch it here.
