A "sourdough" on the Douglas Trail, 1858

The Douglas Trail was constructed in the fall of 1858. This was the first public works project on the mainland. It was initiated by Governor Douglas to ensure food and freight could be transported to the goldfields inland.

August Projects

The last two weeks of August have been very busy at the museum.  Thanks to lots of volunteer and summer employee help the Project Board at the museum is almost clear.  What a summer!

Recently George Henry and Nick Antonelli worked on the removal of the old junk loader to make room for the priest wagon cover.

In the next week the George's made quick work of the construction of the cover with materials donated by Drew Oberson of Continental Pole.

George Henry (Sr) was on site daily this summer with all his tools and knowledge and led the team through many projects on site.  Many of these projects had been in the making for many years but without volunteerism the projects would not have been completed.  Many thanks to the George Henry team and all our volunteers for their efforts and hard work.
