A "sourdough" on the Douglas Trail, 1858

The Douglas Trail was constructed in the fall of 1858. This was the first public works project on the mainland. It was initiated by Governor Douglas to ensure food and freight could be transported to the goldfields inland.

Tea and Tales July 20th

Cathy came to the Tea, with her young son Travis, and talked to the tea goers about the local organization she is a part of called "Growing Great Children."  She talked about why the organization formed and future goals to support young families with children aged 0-6 in the area.  We talked about some of the strengths and weaknesses of "Growing up in Pemberton" today.  It was clear from the number of children to the museum on Tuesday that Pemberton has a young and growing community and that local people like Cathy are making sure that it continues to be a great place to raise a family.

We had 65 people drop by for tea and raised some more funds for the kitchen fund.  All of our Tea & Tale profit goes into the "kitchen fund" and the plan is to build a kitchen at the end of the Soo Bldg to better service events and functions.

Check out these photos from Tuesday and we'll see you next week for Veronica's Woodruff's tale about "Pemberton Wetlands."
