A "sourdough" on the Douglas Trail, 1858

The Douglas Trail was constructed in the fall of 1858. This was the first public works project on the mainland. It was initiated by Governor Douglas to ensure food and freight could be transported to the goldfields inland.

Museum Thanks Scotiabank

Pemberton Museum Press Release June 17, 2009

In attendance: Shelly Cherry, Andrew Weitzel, Nikita Ferguson, Corrine De Graaf, Chris Cosulich, Lori Hughes, Judy Sanky, Holly Russell, Valerie Plourde, Laura Brameld, Cindy Pipe, George Henry.

Logo ScotiaBank George Henry (president) and Lori Hughes (vice-president) of the Pemberton and District Museum & Archives Society were presented with a cheque for $1,605.00 from Scotiabank Manager Valerie Plourde the morning of June 17th, 2009.

The cheque was the result of a matching fundraising program, led by Lori Huges, Denize Callaway and Mabel Stillwell in the summer of 2008. Proceeds from BC 150 events in 2008, specifically ticket sales for the Theater Royale from Barkerville and the Gold Rush raffle, were matched by the Scotiabank.

The funds will be used to purchase windows for the new display, administration and archives building currently under construction.� The Museum extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Scotiabank for their efforts and continued support of their community museum.

The Board of Directors continues to fundraise for this project in 2009 and private parties or businesses interested in donating materials, labour or cash to this important project can contact George Henry at the museum...� (604) 894-5504.
