A "sourdough" on the Douglas Trail, 1858

The Douglas Trail was constructed in the fall of 1858. This was the first public works project on the mainland. It was initiated by Governor Douglas to ensure food and freight could be transported to the goldfields inland.

Museum Closures

The museum will be closed the following dates.

We apologize for any inconvienence.

Closed:

  • Wed May 19th & Thrs 20th
  • Tuesday May 26th, Wed May 27th and Thrs May 28th
  • Monday June 01, Tuesday June 02
  • Sunday June 07th, Monday June 8th
  • Sunday June 14th, Monday June 15th

The museum will operate 7 days a week beginning June 16th through to the Tuesday following Labour Day.
